The people have once again spoken. Most Agusanons still want incumbent Governor Erlpe John M. Amante to lead them for another three years. This was the sentiment of the people expressed through their ballots during the elections held last May 10, 2010.
Per COMELEC data, out of the 160,050 registered voters in Agusan del Norte who actually voted, Governor Amante got 113,010 votes, an overwhelming margin over his rival, Mr. Roger Patanao, who only got 27,370 votes. Amante was very elated of his landslide victory, a testimony of his strong leadership and effective management over the affairs of the province. A trust earned for six years as a dedicated public servant. Aside from winning his 3rd term as governor, all of the candidates of the party for congressman, vice governor and provincial board were also elected. Vice Governor Enrico R. Covera who was seeking for a second term emerged the winning candidate garnering 98,038 votes over his opponent Dr. Mercedez B. Atupan, wife of the late Provincial Board Member Dr. Venerando D. Atupan, who only got 30,726 votes. In the congressional race, former Provincial Governor and Congresswoman Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante was also the popular choice to represent the masses in Congress. Her vast experience as 3-termer governor of the province and Congresswoman for three years has proven herself to be worthy of the people’s votes. Angel Amante will replace her father, Congressman Edelmiro A. Amante who is set to retire when his term ends on June 30. <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> Among the elected Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members, five are new to the positions, namely: Atty.
