Advocating blood donation as an act of heroism, the municipality of Tubay will now conduct a Bloodletting Day Program twice a year or as often as necessary by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 2009-10. authored by SB Member Jary P. Mondejar.
Local officials recognized the significance of the program mainly: 1) to advocate and promote the voluntary blood donation program in the community; 2) to ensure adequate, safe and readily available supply of blood through regular bloodletting activities; 3) to help eradicate the misconceptions in blood donation through a comprehensive information, education and communication campaign; and 4) to let the community realize the importance of the program that blood donation is a heroic act of saving lives To put things in order regarding the said program, a Municipal Blood Council (MBC) is created with the Municipal Mayor as the Chairman and co-chaired by the Municipal Health Officer (MHO) who will set the schedules of the municipal bloodletting days and cause the necessary preparations and arrangements with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and or duly authorized hospitals or blood banks and such other concerned entities from the public or private sectors. The program will have an annual allocation of P30,000.00 for the expenses related to the conduct of said activity such as but not limited to meals and snacks, transportation, donor incentives, information campaign, community mobilization and documentation. “Blood donation is indeed, a heroic act of saving lives,” said Board Member Aquino W.
